It is an open office system, where the administrator sits with the rest of the staff. There are no titles or hierarchy, and everyone is treated as an equal. The goal is to foster independence in decision making and a love for the workplace, instead of the tyrannical situations in most other offices that they have experienced. With equal status comes an equal sharing in keeping the office clean and safe. Emptying the trash from exam rooms at the end of the day, or picking up after you have used the break room is expected of everyone at the practice. My role as administrator is to handle the finances, payroll and immense amount of credentialing paperwork required to run a surgical facility and a medical clinic. The day to day functions are handled by the employees under the careful supervision of senior staff. There is flexi time offered, and most of the staff have availed of it depending on their personal needs and changing life situations. This understanding that everyone has families and personal situations that may need urgent attention, makes this practice very different from most other workplaces. There is extensive training given, and at times we have been forced to ask employees to improve their performance and not rely on being spoon fed. Understandably, not everyone is competent or up to the task, which makes it very difficult for their team members. It is an environment which fosters learning, caring for the patients we treat and genuine relationships between the team that go far beyond the work day.

My day includes taking patients back into procedure rooms, taking their vitals, preforming small test, collecting urine specimen, entering patient data into the EHR. The hardest part is trying to answer the doctor's questions before they are asked. the best part is the connection with the patients
